Filtration Grades

Garnet for support layers and fine garnet layers in water filtration beds.

Filtration garnet is selected by the job of each layer in a bed. A coarse support layer sits at drainage; an intermediate support layer bridges to finer media; a fine garnet layer serves the finishing position. Read the approved band with neighbouring materials, vessel layout, flow direction and backwash plan. Choose a grade for the layer being replaced, then share the bed schedule when asking for a data sheet. The catalogue describes grades and size bands; the filter designer sets the complete arrangement.

4-8 mesh2.36-4.75 mm

Coarse support layer

Use 4-8 mesh as the coarse support layer at the drainage side of a filter bed. Check the retaining opening and upper media; the support interface must hold this layer in place. It is the coarsest listed filtration choice; step finer to 8-20 mesh when the design calls for an intermediate support layer rather than a base layer.

Buyer note: Put the retaining opening and the adjacent upper layer in the enquiry.

8-20 mesh0.85-2.36 mm

Intermediate support layer

Use 8-20 mesh as the intermediate support layer between coarse support and finer media. Set its position from the bed schedule. Step coarser to 4-8 mesh when the support interface is the priority, or finer to 20/40 mesh when the requested position is a fine garnet layer. State which neighbouring layer remains before requesting a replacement.

Buyer note: Identify whether the request changes one intermediate layer or the whole bed.

20/40 mesh850-425 µm

Fine garnet layer

Use 20/40 mesh for a fine garnet layer when its band fits the specified bed. Compare coarser 8-20 mesh when the design needs intermediate support, and finer 30/60 mesh when the fine layer needs the smaller listed band. Use the bed schedule to distinguish a layer replacement from a wider rearrangement, then request the data sheet for that position.

Buyer note: Send the existing layer order so the fine garnet layer is identified clearly.

30/60 mesh600-250 µm

Fine garnet layer

Use 30/60 mesh as the finer listed fine garnet layer option when the bed design calls for it. At this end, step coarser to 20/40 mesh if the layer position or neighbouring media require the broader option. Read both grades against the bed schedule rather than treating the smaller band as automatic, and put the proposed position in the data-sheet request.

Buyer note: Name the target layer and its neighbouring media before confirming this endpoint grade.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is garnet filter media?
Garnet filter media is natural almandine garnet used for support layers and fine garnet layers in water filtration beds. The catalogue assigns 4-8 mesh to coarse support, 8-20 mesh to intermediate support, and 20/40 mesh and 30/60 mesh to fine garnet layers.
What should guide filtration grade selection?
Choose the grade for the job of the layer being placed or replaced. Read it with the bed schedule, neighbouring media, vessel layout, flow direction and backwash plan.
How do 4-8 mesh and 8-20 mesh differ in a filter bed?
The listed role for 4-8 mesh is the coarse support layer at the drainage side, while 8-20 mesh is the intermediate support layer between coarse support and finer media. Check the retaining opening and adjacent layer when reviewing either support position.
How do 20/40 mesh and 30/60 mesh fit a filtration bed?
Both 20/40 mesh and 30/60 mesh are listed as fine garnet layer choices, with 30/60 mesh the finer listed option. Use the specified bed schedule and neighbouring media rather than treating the finer choice as automatic.
What information should accompany a filtration grade data-sheet request?
Share the bed schedule and identify the target layer, its position and its neighbouring media. Also state whether the request is for one replacement layer or a wider bed rearrangement.
